Base pay range $25.00/hr - $25.00/hr Title: Marketing Copywriter Duration: 2+ Months Location: Chicago, IL 60615 Responsibilities: Content Creation Write engaging, persuasive copy for advancement materials, including: Annual giving campaigns (emails, letters, and online appeals). Major and principal gift proposals and case statements. Alumni engagement content, such as event invitations and volunteer outreach. Planned giving communications. Outreach Strategy & Collaboration Collaborate with partners to develop messaging that reflects annual giving and engagement priorities and constituent interests. Partner with design and digital teams to ensure content and visuals are cohesive, compelling, and aligned with brand standards. Editing & Optimization Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all communications, adhering to institutional style and tone guidelines. Optimize content for multi-channel delivery, including email, print, web, and social media platforms. Conduct A/B testing and analyze campaign performance metrics to refine messaging and improve donor conversion rates. Donor Insights & Research Research audiences, giving trends, and institutional priorities to tailor messaging effectively. Stay informed about higher education fundraising trends and best practices to create innovative, donor-focused materials. Qualification, Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field. Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in copywriting, marketing, or advancement communications, preferably within higher education or the nonprofit sector. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a focus on persuasive, audience-centered messaging. Strong ability to create storytelling content that resonates with diverse audiences. Understanding of fundraising principles, donor psychology, and alumni engagement. Experience crafting content for multi-channel campaigns (print, email, web, and social media). Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. Technical Proficiency Familiarity with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud, or Ellucian) and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Emma). Basic knowledge of SEO and digital content optimization. Experience with Microsoft Teams and familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in higher education or advancement communications. Proven ability to translate institutional priorities and academic initiatives into compelling donor communications. Familiarity with trends in higher education fundraising, including comprehensive and capital campaigns.
