Position Available:

Platform Engineer, Intermediate (min. 4 years experience)

Hybrid role based in Charlotte, NC

Role Overview:

Maintaining compliance of company infrastructure, reliability of the AWS platform and undertaking improvements based on best practice.

Reporting to the Lead Platform Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

· Contribute to the management, configuration, and maintenance of cloud-based systems and infrastructure, with a primary focus on AWS Cloud.

· Develop and sustain scripts to automate routine tasks, optimising system efficiency.

· Collaborate with senior engineers to diagnose and resolve technical challenges effectively.

· Proactively monitor platform and cloud performance, swiftly addressing technical issues to ensure sustained system uptime and availability.

· Collaborate with the team to ensure a secure and compliant infrastructure and data management.

· Participate in regular backups and periodic disaster recovery testing procedures.

· Stay abreast of the latest trends in cloud technologies, integrating relevant advancements into the operational framework.

· Document procedures and configurations, facilitating effective knowledge sharing within the team.

· Provide technical support and assistance to external stakeholders.

· Oversee the Junior Platform Engineer duties of: Software installation, administration of software assets, and software update distribution via Intune.

· Technical support of physical devices

· Collaborate with the Junior Platform Engineer duties of: Conduct periodic policy reviews, system updates, patching, and security enhancement measures.

· Monitor and operate the CI/CD process.

· Support with infrastructure management through Terraform (IaC) and Bash/Python scripting where applicable.

· Support other teams by addressing technical change requests

 

Required Skills and Expertise

Technical:

· Good understanding of cloud platforms and services, holding an AWS Associate certification, or a similar level of experience in cloud technologies.

· Understanding of maintaining backups, snapshots, and disaster recovery solutions.

· Functional understanding of containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes/ECS).

·  Proficiency in various operating systems (MS Windows desktop and server, macOS, Linux distros) and their respective software.

· Capable Linux administration at a confident user level.

· Solid scripting skills, with working use of BASH or Python.

· Professional experience maintaining AWS infrastructure and networking configurations.

· Professional experience of git based version control and working together in a team.

· Evidence of good documentation practices and clean/considerate code.

· Understanding of CI/CD and agile development processes.

· Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or similar.

· Strong comprehension of networking; routing, subnets, protocols, ports, services, VPN, firewalls, and routers.

Desired :

· Working knowledge of basic MySql database commands and administration tasks

· Working knowledge of encryption and security technologies and tools (SSL/TLS, GPG, SSH,

· Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) frameworks, adhering to best security practices and ISO27001 norms.

· Proficient in monitoring and logging systems, eg. ELK stack, DataDog, Logz.io.

Further Education / Qualifications

Education levels and/or qualifications required for this role:

Required:

· AWS Associate (or higher) or similar level cloud certification (or equivalent professional experience)

Desirable:

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

· Certification in Linux, Microsoft, Docker/Kubernetes, networking, Terraform, or a willingness to pursue certification is advantageous
