Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Nurse Educator to lead staff development programs in a long-term care environment. This role is key in providing training in areas such as safety, body mechanics, infection control, hazardous materials, and more, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate staff development initiatives, including instruction in safety protocols, infection control, and other mandated topics to meet NYSDOH and other regulatory standards.
Provide coaching and counseling to staff, support performance improvement, and participate in disciplinary processes as needed.
Stay up-to-date with the latest practices and trends by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and engaging in professional networks and societies.
Document educational activities, track attendance, and monitor participant responses to assess effectiveness.
Provide regular reports on active projects, participant progress, and feedback on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Participate in monthly QAPI meetings and contribute to ongoing projects to improve quality assurance and performance initiatives.
Collaborate with the Director of Quality and Director of Nursing to plan and implement programs that support staff development and ensure a knowledgeable, well-trained team.
Maintain accurate records and assist with data collection for evaluation purposes.
Stay in close communication with employees who are off work due to illness, disability, or workers' compensation, ensuring a smooth return-to-work process.
Review incident and OSHA reports, especially those involving work-related injuries, and coordinate safety and loss prevention training.
Oversee annual tuberculosis screenings for volunteers and ensure proper follow-up for positive results in accordance with nursing protocols.
Administer Hepatitis B vaccinations and Mantoux (TB) tests, ensuring compliance with guidelines and under the direction of relevant leadership.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Nurse Educator in a long-term care setting.
Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Previous experience in long-term care.
Demonstrated ability to educate and coach staff effectively, using creativity and practical methods.
CPR certification required; CPR trainer certification is preferred or the willingness to become certified.
Experience with rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
Ability to communicate and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a courteous, tactful, and effective manner.
Strong ethical standards, particularly regarding confidentiality and discretion.
Knowledge of emergency preparedness, safety regulations, fire and disaster protocols, OSHA guidelines, and infection control procedures.
